Everyone wants to live a life they love. You want to live, love, laugh, and learn and enjoy it every step of the way. The hard part is figuring out where to start and getting from point A to point B. You have a picture but you’re not sure how to begin. That’s where the life audit comes in. In this post, I’m sharing why you need to audit your life plus sharing access to one-page life audit worksheet to help you get started.
I believe in the power of reflection, actually, that’s an understatement, I’m a professional reflector. I have the ability to look at things as a whole and decide how it fits into the big picture of my life mission. So, it’s no surprise that I audit my life pretty frequently to make sure I’m still on track. What is surprising is how invigorating it is each time. Every time I perform an audit, I build a new motivation to reach my goals. I also gain clarity about what I want and why I’m doing the things that I’m doing. It’s surprising how many people who have big dreams of a life makeover don’t do life audits.
An audit of your life is a game changer
I meet so many women who say ” I want to do A.B.C but I don’t know where to start.” Or they say “I’m trying to make this happen but I have no time to do it.” In order to live a life you adore you need balance. In order to get balance, you need to know where you stand. To know where you stand, you need to evaluate if your life mission, goals, and activities complement each other. Then you can decide if they need to be changed. Ultimately an audit is step one to building a life you adore.
How does a life audit work?
Auditing your life sounds daunting but it doesn’t have to be a hard task at all. First, you will start with thinking about your life mission or your vision. Your mission is basically the “why” to your goals. Ask yourself, why you want a new job? Or, what makes you want to work from home? Or, even how will you benefit if you got a boyfriend? Next, from your vision, you will develop goals to get to your mission.
After that, you will list your activities that take up your days and time. Key activities will be work, sleeping, working out, meal planning, dates, parties, socializing, etcetera. Then after you list your activities you will assess the necessity of each one in your life. Your life is ever-changing, so the audit you do today will be different from the one you do in six months.
WHAT DO YOU ASK YOURSELF?
- Do I like doing this activity? Are you completing an activity that you like or are you doing it because you think you have to?
- Is this activity a priority? Is this something you absolutely have to do?
- Can I still get what I want without this activity in my life? What if you dropped the activity, would things change for better or worse?
- If I wasn’t already doing this activity would I start it today? If you’ve been participating in this activity for a long time, is it the time it switch up? Would you continue to do it?
You can totally have a life you adore. It’s tough in the beginning because you are not always sure where to start. An audit helps you gain clarity, and clear unnecessary tasks so you can have the space to focus on your life mission. It also helps you to map your next steps and finally start your journey.
