Most humans spend a life time dreaming about how they want their lives to be. However, dreams are just dreams without an plan of action. If you want to get to where you want to be, you have write down your dreams, and make them into a plan. A goal is simply a dream written down. If you want to show the real world who’s boss you have to learn how to make achievable goals.
My parents always told me that if I wanted to achieve anything in life, I needed an education. So I followed their advice and completed more than six years of higher education. While an education was rewarding, I found myself pretty frustrated and lost after graduation. I know my story rings true for many millennials. After going to school, graduating, and nailing a “big girl job,” something was definitely missing. I missed the planning part. I missed the part where I figured out what I wanted and how to get it. In life you need to give yourself direction to know where you’re going. That is what goals do for you. Once I got focused though, and made some serious life goals, was I able to soak in some progression and happiness.
So what does this mean for you? It means that it’s time to get a plan. Think of what you want in life and figure out a plan to get it. Whether it’s graduating college, getting a job, starting a business, or getting married, you should figure out what success means to you. Then, when you’ve figured what you wanted start writing it down. Did you know only 50% of people actually write down their goals? Those who do write down their goals though are more likely to accomplish them then those who don’t.
No worries, I know making a plan is difficult, especially when you are not sure where to begin. A good plan starts with some positives about you. Start with affirmations, things people like about you, or strong qualities about yourself. Next, list something to help you out of a rut. Then list your long term overall goal. After that, you want to talk about where you are now in life and what things look like for you right now. Once you are finished you write down your SMART goal. As time goes on you want to check your treatment plan often and write in the date and progress you’ve made. I know this sounds easier said than done, so I included a free printable for you below.
You can have the successful life you want. You also have the tools you need to get to where you want to be in life. Goals are important for getting to that next step and mapping out where you want to go. Have you ever made a goal before? What kind of goals do you have for life? Until next time…
